GENERAL FUNCTION: Working hand in hand with the Sales team, the Design Engineer designs and quotes certified government low voltage security systems and other commercial applications consisting of intrusion detection systems (IDS), automated entry control systems (AECS) and closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera systems (IP & analog). This role creates a concept design the represents parts, devices, communication schematics, wiring configuration and overall intent to generate quotes consisting of all the parts and labor to support the design for delivery to customer.

Responsibilities

Specific Duties:

  • Interfaces with the sales team to develop quotes-based leads and surveys
  • Create design concepts, review submittal packages and as-built drawings to ensure they are accurate to the quote and the final stage of execution.
  • Coordinates with sales personnel to create sales quotes, supporting narratives and diagrams.
  • Coordinates with both customers and internal departments as needed to ensure designs and equipment lists are correct based on contracted scope of work
  • Responsible for necessary design updates and revisions both pre-sale and post-sale
  • Maintains current information on all products utilized by the company
  • Periodically travels to site for site surveys and systems testing
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience:

  • Minimum five years of experience in the Electronic Security Industry
  • Minimum two years of technical education. Experience can be substituted for education.
  • Experienced in systems design, implementation, wiring, retrofitting systems, integration of systems and central station equipment for Low Voltage Intrusion Detection, Automated Entry Control and Closed-Circuit Television systems and components, with basic Knowledge of standard communication protocols such as POTS, Serial Communication, Wide / Local area networks and associated equipment.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting Security Systems Specifications and floorplans
  • Familiarity with creating firm fixed price quotes based on sales leads and survey notes
  • Experience with the following software applications
  • Office 365, Internet Explorer
  • Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox
  • Adobe Acrobat X Professional
  • Windows 10 Professional
  • Microsoft Visio and/or AutoCAD

Other:

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment to include overtime
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to drive clarity from ambiguity and ensure understanding between internal and external customers
  • Must work well with others in a team environment

  • Perform routine maintenance and service repairs for customers with technical, application and service related aspects of integrated alarm intrusion systems, access control systems, CCTV and GBR.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections per manufacturer’s recommendation on integrated alarm intrusion systems, access control systems, CCTV and GBR.
  • Provide system performance analysis on the IDS operational platform.
  • Gather information from field in order to duplicate any reported problems in lab environment.
  • Provide 24 hour per day, 7 days per week emergency service capability as needed.
  • Provide routine updates and implement software upgrades as needed.
  • Provide informal end-user system operational instructions and support in conjunction with maintenance or service visits to customer locations.
  • Assist with field installations of IDS, Access Control, CCTV and GBR systems as required.
  • Document all calls for service, preventive maintenance requirements and interface with technical support center as needed.
  • Ensure all required service documentation is completed daily and delivered to Service Department as required.
  • On-call service as required.
  • Up to 100% vehicle travel is required.
  • Provide general maintenance and safe keeping of company vehicle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and hands on experience with electronic alarm systems, including CCTV equipment and associated hardware.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience with electronic access control systems and associated hardware.
  • Experience involving programming software associated with electronic alarm and access control systems.
  • GBR experience is a plus.
  • Two years of related college is a plus.
  • General knowledge and experience with Windows 2003, 2008, XP, and 7.
  • General knowledge and experience with MS Office software and CRM’s.
  • General computer hardware knowledge.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Must have valid driver’s license for state of employment.
